Cambion (Medieval folklore)
A cambion is the product of a union between a demon and a mortal. Cambions, similar to the majority of hybrids, are infertile, unable to ever reproduce. This also includes cambions who are more mortal than balanced or demonic, as it was rumored that only then can they lay with humans. This has been proven untrue.
The mothers of true cambions always die in childbirth, serving to strand the newborn on the Material Plane where it will be orphaned. The cambion child is typically sickly and bad-behaved, and often times malformed in some manner. According to traditional beliefs cambions tended to live shortened lives. Cambions may have been a pre-scientific explanation for birth defects and infant illnesses and mortality.
