Fenrir (Norse)
Fenrir (Old Norse "Fenrir's wolf", often translated "Fenris-wolf"), and Vanagandr (Old Norse 'monster of the River) is a wolf in Norse mythology. Fenrir, along with Hel and the World Serpent, is a child of Loki and giantess Angrbooa. In both the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda, Fenrir is the father of the wolves Skoll and Hati Hroovitnisson, is a son of Loki and is foretold to kill the god Odin during the events of Ragnarok, but will in turn be killed by Odin's son Víoarr.
Fearing Fenrir’s strength and knowing that only evil could be expected of him, the gods bound him with a magical chain made of the sound of a cat’s footsteps, the beard of a woman, the breath of fish, and other occult elements. When the chain was placed upon him, Fenrir bit off the hand of the god Tyr. He was gagged with a sword and was destined to lie bound to a rock until Doomsday, when he will break his bonds and fall upon the gods.
