Hippocamp (Etruscan, Greek and Phoenician)

The hippocampus or hippocamp, also hippokampos (plural: hippocampi or hippocamps; Ancient Greek: ??????????, from ?????, 'horse', and ??????, 'sea monster'), often called a sea-horse in Englis is a mythological creature shared by Phoenician, Etruscan, Pictish, Roman and Greek mythology, though its name has a Greek origin. The hippocampus has typically been depicted as having the upper body of a horse with the lower body of a fish.

The ancients believed they were the adult-form of the small fish we call the "sea-horse". Hippokampoi were the mounts of Nereid nymphs and sea-gods, and Poseidon drove a chariot drawn by two or four of the creatures. The hippocampus (hippocampi in plural) symbolizes water, power, bravery, and helpfulness. It is also defined as a symbol of hope, strength, and agility because of its ability to help people.
