Karasu-tengu (Japanese)
Karasutengu (heavenly crow dog) are a kind of yokai from Japanese folklore with wings like a crow's, have been known to humans since ancient times. They have keen eyesight and hard beaks and fly about as they please, controlling the wind. They have no trouble finding purchase even on sheer cliff faces and use their control of the winds to attack when provoked, making them a troublesome foe.
Initially, the tengu was not a Japanese y?kai at all. Its origins lie in China, where the word tiangou, written with the same characters, means “celestial dog.” The creature was a kind of ill-omened comet or meteor, the roar of which as it entered the earth’s atmosphere was believed to resemble a dog’s bark. Even today, in China and Taiwan, the tiangou is commonly thought of as a canine monster.
