Parandrus (Medieval Bestiaries)
A parandrus, also known as a tarandos, tarandus, or parandros, is a legendary reindeer/moose-like creature with chameleon properties. An animal as big as a bullock, having a head like a stag, or a little bigger, two stately horns with large branches, cloven feet, hair long like that of a furred Muscovite, I mean a bear, and a skin almost as hard as steel armour.
The Parandrus or Tarandrus, is much like a chameleon it was able to camouflage itself by changing the colors of its coat. It would do this to evade predatory animals and hunters. It is unclear if this creature was supposed to pose any threat, or if its exotic nature and abilities were merely a curiosity.
