Spiridus (Romanian)
A spiridus in Romanian mythology is said to be a "demon incarnate", or a domestic spirit, oftentimes taking the form of an avian familiar, such as hens, crows, or hunting birds. The purpose of these familiars once they are summoned is to act as a messenger or intermediary between the master of the house in which Spiridush was born and the demon.
Masters can use Spiridush to request mortal desires from demons in exchange for their souls in the afterlife. In some Regions, a stylized Mask is created and used as a Talisman to ward off any errant Spiridus ''lurking'' thru the Countryside. They are hung somewhere in the house (but most often near a Front Door, to protect the entrance from a Spiridus).
