Tatzelwurm (Alpine Folklore)
The Tatzelwurm, Stollenwurm, or Stollwurm is a lizard-like creature, often described as having the face of a cat, with a serpent-like body which may be slender or stubby, with four short legs or two forelegs and no hindlegs. The creature is sometimes said to be venomous, or to attack with poisonous breath, and to make a high-pitched or hissing sound.
The Tatzelwurm blends into its rocky surroundings by possessing a lighter scale color and smaller, wiry frame. It makes its home among the craggy outcrops and in larger recesses that it finds. Around the forested region of Berlin, the resources available enable it to grow to much larger sizes (Black Bear).
